Area

Australia is the world's sixth-largest country with an area of 7.69 million sq km which is almost the same size of the United States. It has six states and two territories - New South Wales (Sydney), Queensland (Brisbane), South Australia (Adelaide), Tasmania (Hobart), Victoria (Melbourne), Western Australia (Perth), Australian Capital Territory (Canberra) and Northern Territory (Darwin). The capital city is Canberra.

 

Population

Australia is a multi-race country with a population of 21 million. 7% are Asian immigrants and the majority of them live along the eastern and southeastern coast.

 

Climate

Australia is famous for its sunshine and mild climate where it is temperate in south and east and tropical in north. Summer season is from December to February with an average temperature between 26 to 29 degrees Celsius and winter season is from June to August with an average temperature between 10 to 17 degrees Celsius.

Asian food is very popular in Australia and many local supermarkets sell Chinese, Korean, Malaysian, Japanese and Thai food. People in Australia enjoy a wide range of cultural and leisure activities such as arts festivals, golf, scuba diving, tennis, white water rafting and surfing.

For instance, university students can choose to live in university hall, international student hostel, and homestay accommodation or to share apartment with other students; and those below 18 years old can enroll in a boarding school or live with an Australian family.

The cost of living and study in Australia is more affordable when compared to countries like the UK and US. The cost varies from state to state from A$12,000 – A$18,000 per annum and is relatively higher in the eastern states in cities like Sydney and Melbourne.
