《iEducation Facebook 英語學堂》 第71周 : 獨

香港這周因為一個「獨」字鬧得熱哄哄，iEducation 也凑凑熱鬧，今期就用這個平台講 「講獨」。

「獨」- 英文可譯作 “Independent (獨立)”, “lonely (孤獨)”, “special (獨有的)”, “only (唯獨)”, “unique (獨一的)”, “sole (單獨)” ……等等。中文常用雙音詞 (disyllabic words)，即一個單音詞 (monosyllabic words) 加另一個單音詞組成詞語，意思便有所改變。但在英文中，我們便要靈活地找到相對應的字了，例如下面的例子都用了「獨」字，但卻有不同的英文字來表達：

1. 不要獨留小朋友在家。 Do not leave children alone at home. (alone)

2. 獨居長者覺得很孤獨。 Singleton elders feel lonely. (singleton, lonely)

3. 我在畢業典禮上表演鋼琴獨奏。I soloed the piano at the graduation ceremony. (solo)

4. 他是獨生子。 He is the only child. (only)
