《iET Facebook 英語學堂》 第15周 : Bring Someone to Book

一年一度的書展又開鑼，必定吸引很多書蟲 (Bookworms) 朝聖、年輕人凑熱鬧、或家長瘋狂掃練習簿。

今期iET 教大家一句關於書 (book) 的慣用語——“Bring Someone to Book”，千萬不要照字面解作「帶某某去書（展）」或「帶書給某某」，這句話的意思其實是「懲罰某人」或要人「為過失作公開解釋」。例如有立法會議員虛報學歷，有市民要求 Bring him/her to book，向公眾作交代。

例子:

Student A: I stole a laptop from the I.T. room last night. Wasn’t it cool?

Student B: I don’t think so. I’ll report it to the school and they’ll bring you to book.
